Once hailed as the future of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw has openly addressed the challenges that have stunted his once-promising trajectory. The 25-year-old batsman acknowledged that a series of poor decisions, distractions, and shifting priorities contributed to his decline, both on and off the field.
Prithvi Shaw acknowledges missteps that impacted his cricket career.
In a recent interview with News24, Shaw confessed, "There are a lot of things. It is different for people to see. Because I know what has happened. I can understand it. I have taken a lot of wrong decisions in life. I started giving less time to cricket."
He elaborated on how his dedication to the sport waned. "I used to practice a lot. For example, I used to bat for 3-4 hours in nets. I never got tired of batting. I used to go to the ground for half a day. I admit that there was a distraction."
Shaw further explained the negative influences that led him astray. "After that, I started considering what was not necessary as necessary. I made some wrong friends. Because I was at the top at that time. Friendship is also formed. Then they took me here and there. All those things. Then I got away from the track. I used to give 8 hours of practice on the ground. Now it is 4 hours."
Shaw's career began with a sensational Test debut in 2018, where he scored a century against the West Indies. His early success led to comparisons with legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. However, a lack of discipline and fitness eventually led to him falling out of favor. His struggles were compounded by being dropped by Mumbai due to fitness concerns and going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction.
Now, Shaw is determined to revitalize his career. He has officially severed ties with the Mumbai Cricket Association and is seeking a fresh start with Maharashtra as a professional player. In his letter to the MCA, Shaw expressed gratitude for their past support but emphasized the need for this change to facilitate his growth. While he has had brief periods of resurgence, such as his stint in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, maintaining consistent performance has remained a challenge.
With a new state team, a renewed mindset, and a candid acknowledgement of his past errors, Prithvi Shaw is determined to turn the page. The future remains uncertain, but Shaw is committed to taking the difficult path back to the top of the sport.
