Zimbabwe will play host to Sri Lanka in a series comprising two One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). All matches are scheduled to take place at the Harare Sports Club in Harare, with the series commencing on August 29.
Givemore Makoni, the Managing Director of Zimbabwe Cricket, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming series. "We are delighted to confirm Sri Lanka's visit to Zimbabwe for what we expect to be a thrilling and competitive series," he stated.
The T20I leg of the tour holds particular significance for the Zimbabwean side. It serves as a crucial precursor to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final, a tournament Zimbabwe will host starting September 19. This tournament presents Zimbabwe with an opportunity to secure a coveted spot in the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2027.
Makoni emphasized the historical competitiveness between the two nations. "Matches between our two nations have always produced entertaining cricket and this tour comes at a crucial time for our team as we prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifying campaign," he added.
This series forms part of a busy schedule for Zimbabwe over the next three months. The team is also slated to host South Africa and New Zealand for two-match Test series, in addition to a T20I tri-series featuring all three nations.
