England has announced the inclusion of pacer Jofra Archer in their squad for the second Test against India, marking his return to the format after a four-year absence. The 30-year-old, whose career has been plagued by injuries, last played a Test match in February 2021.

Archer's inclusion aims to reinforce England's bowling attack as they seek to extend their 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The team secured a five-wicket victory in the first Test.

Archer's most recent appearance for England was in March during the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, where he played in an ODI against South Africa. He recently participated in a first-class game for Sussex against Durham after a four-year hiatus. Although he only managed to secure one wicket, selectors were encouraged by his rhythm and fitness.

With 42 wickets from 13 Tests at an average of 31, Archer’s record speaks for itself. His pace and ability to bowl hostile spells provide England with a significant advantage, especially at Edgbaston, where seamers have historically performed well.

His return is timely, addressing concerns about the workload of other quicks. Gus Atkinson is still recovering, and the situations of Josh Tongue and Brydon Carse are being closely monitored. Former England players Stuart Broad and Jos Buttler have also advocated for Archer's inclusion in the second Test.

Archer’s comeback is expected to boost the team and energize fans. With captain Ben Stokes emphasizing England's commitment to aggressive cricket, Archer's return aligns with the team’s approach under the "Bazball" era.

The second Test begins on July 2 at Edgbaston, where England aims to continue their winning streak with Archer back in the lineup.
