Just weeks after welcoming his child into the world, Rahul rejoined his Delhi Capitals teammates for IPL 2025 training. His message to coach Hemang Badani was clear: "Country first… I care for this team." This single-minded focus highlights Rahul's determination to contribute significantly to India's Test campaign in England.

With experienced players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma no longer in the Test squad, the responsibility falls on senior players like KL Rahul to guide the team.

Upon his return to Delhi Capitals training, Rahul immediately immersed himself in batting drills, demonstrating his eagerness to prepare for the challenges ahead.

Badani emphasized Rahul's proactive approach: "I really liked the fact that he was someone who said, ‘I want to go to England early. I want to play the side game.’ Forget about the hundred he got — that came later. The intent — that’s what matters."

He further added, "Let’s not forget, he’s a young father, and I don’t think his child is travelling with him initially. So for him to say, ‘Country over my child’ — that’s a huge call. He could’ve easily said, ‘I'm not playing the side game anyway, I’ll just go straight to the Test match.’ But he didn’t."

Rahul's actions speak volumes about his commitment. He arrived in England early to participate in the unofficial Test against England Lions, where he delivered a commanding performance.

His scores of 116 and 51 in that match served as a resounding declaration of his readiness for the Test series. This performance mirrored his impactful "Kantara" celebration during the IPL, solidifying his reputation as a player who rises to the occasion.

The rest of the squad — apart from Karun — are mostly under 30. So he has to guide players like Sai Sudharsan, Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Nitish Kumar Reddy — all of whom are new to this level."
