X, formerly known as Twitter, has recently banned over 500,000 accounts in India for violating its platform policies. The crackdown, as reported by Reuters, occurred between January 26 and February 25.
*X Corp takes action against accounts promoting harmful content*
The social media giant banned a staggering 506,173 accounts for promoting child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. In addition to this, 1,982 accounts were suspended for promoting terrorism.
In total, X banned 508,155 accounts in India during the specified period. Furthermore, the platform received approximately 14,421 complaints from Indian users through its grievance redressal mechanisms, along with 41 requests related to account suspensions.
X stated that following a review, only one account suspension was overturned. The company further clarified that they received 71 requests related to general account inquiries during the reporting period.
This recent ban is not an isolated incident. Between December 26 and January 25, X banned approximately 231,215 accounts in India. During that same period, 1,945 accounts were banned for promoting terrorism.
To avoid suspension from X, users should refrain from violating the platform's policies, particularly those concerning child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. Adhering to these guidelines is crucial for maintaining an active account on the platform.
