London - Novak Djokovic demonstrated the importance of a strong finish at Wimbledon's Centre Court, overcoming a shaky start to defeat Alex de Minaur.

After conceding the first set in a mere 30 minutes, the 38-year-old Djokovic, visibly struggling with his stomach, rallied against the 11th-seeded Australian. The Serbian champion ultimately secured a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory in three hours and 18 minutes, marking his 16th quarterfinal appearance at the prestigious tournament.

The day began with challenging weather conditions at SW19, as wind and intermittent sunshine greeted spectators. Despite the cold, Roger Federer, an eight-time Wimbledon champion, was present, adding to the excitement.

De Minaur, who had previously withdrawn from a Wimbledon quarterfinal due to injury, initially showcased his skills. However, Djokovic strategically increased the pace, disrupting De Minaur's rhythm and forcing him onto the defensive.

The second set was a battle, with the first three games featuring multiple breaks. Despite De Minaur's efforts, Djokovic regained control, eventually taking a 3-1 lead. Supported by his fiancee Katie Boulter, De Minaur faltered in the third set, allowing Djokovic to seize a two-sets-to-one advantage.

In the fourth set, De Minaur surged ahead with a 4-1 lead, raising the possibility of a long match. However, Djokovic had other plans. He broke De Minaur's serve in the seventh game, leveling the score at 4-4 and ultimately closing out the match.

Dismissing concerns about his physical condition, Djokovic humorously acknowledged Federer's presence. “Sometimes I wish I had a serve and volley and nice touch (like) the gentleman that’s standing there. That would help,” Djokovic said in his on court interview, acknowledging Federer. “It’s probably the first time he has watched me and I’ve won the match. The last couple I lost, it’s good to break the curse.”

In another fourth-round match, Italian player Flavio Cobolli defeated Marin Cilic, reaching his first quarterfinal at Wimbledon. Cobolli is set to face his idol, Djokovic, in the next round.

Belinda Bencic also advanced to the quarterfinals, marking her best result at this tournament.
