Jasprit Bumrah immediately took charge upon entering the Edgbaston Cricket Ground nets. With his characteristic shoulder movement, he quickly positioned himself at his mark in the center net, signaling his intent for the session.
After a brief warm-up consisting of gentle deliveries, Bumrah intensified his pace. The coaching staff measured his run-up as he prepared for a vigorous 20-minute spell. With several key batsmen absent, Bumrah focused on bowling to Sai Sudharsan, Ravindra Jadeja, and Karun Nair.
Bumrah exhibited exceptional control, challenging the batsmen with varied angles and accuracy. His mental freshness was evident, likely benefiting from the three-day break. He bowled alongside Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, forming a potent pace trio.
The trio, who participated in the Headingley Test, initially abstained from bowling during Friday's practice but trained diligently on the subsequent day. Each bowler dedicated approximately thirty minutes to bowling before practicing their batting skills in the nets.
Siraj collaborated with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, concentrating on leaves, ducks, and forward defense. Bumrah explored various aspects of his game, engaging in side-arm practice, slow bowling, and throwdowns, demonstrating unwavering focus. He also practiced his batting, showing increasing confidence as the session progressed.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja continued his batting practice, while Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep aimed to impress. Kuldeep Yadav diligently honed both his batting and bowling skills. The inclusion of either Akash or Arshdeep hinges on Bumrah's availability, Kuldeep is ensuring thorough preparation.
Kuldeep actively seeks feedback from the support staff and teammates. He is experimenting with new angles and varying lengths, a strategy that may prove beneficial given the dry conditions in Birmingham for the upcoming Test match.
In addition to his bowling, Kuldeep has dedicated significant time to improving his batting under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir and Sitanshu Kotak. Over the past year and a half, he has worked diligently to enhance his batting and aims to make valuable contributions with the bat.
Following two days of intense practice, the team will take a break before reconvening on June 30th. The bowlers can rest, while bowling coach Morne Morkel might engage in light-hearted activities with Arshdeep and Akash Deep. The suspense surrounding Bumrah's participation will persist for at least the next 48 hours.
