A year has passed since India ended their 17-year T20 World Cup drought, claiming the trophy after a thrilling final match against South Africa at Kensington Oval. The intense contest went down to the wire, with India holding firm to secure the title and end years of near misses.
The victory was the result of a dominant and resilient campaign that saw India remain unbeaten throughout the tournament.
One of the most memorable moments was the high-stakes clash between India and Pakistan. "It wasn’t just a game," Sharma recalled. "The atmosphere was electric. You could feel the anticipation building; it felt like a festival."
India narrowly defeated Pakistan by six runs in a tense, low-scoring match. Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional performance, taking 3 wickets for 14 runs, earned him the Player of the Match award.
Despite an early setback with the quick loss of key batsmen including Kohli and Rohit, Rishabh Pant’s aggressive 42 off 31 balls helped India reach a total of 119.
"On that pitch, his 42 was like scoring 70," said Sharma. "We believed that with our bowling attack, even 119 could be enough."
Sharma praised Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh for their flawless execution of the game plan. "Bumrah is a game-changer; he takes wickets and controls the flow of runs. Arshdeep has also been outstanding. Together, they were crucial in securing our victory."
From the electrifying atmosphere of the India-Pakistan match to the nail-biting final in Barbados, Rohit Sharma’s reflection is a tribute to the team that created unforgettable memories for the nation.
