Sunil Gavaskar, the iconic Indian cricketer, has issued a strong rebuke against the proliferation of fake quotes attributed to him on various sports websites and social media platforms.
In a video message shared on his official Instagram account, Gavaskar directly addressed the issue, condemning the misrepresentation of his views and urging fans to exercise caution when encountering such statements.
"Over the last few months, it has come to my notice that a lot of sports websites and individual accounts have been attributing comments and quotes to me that I've never made," Gavaskar stated in the video. He emphasized the importance of verification and fact-checking, advising viewers not to readily believe everything they read, particularly from unofficial sources.
Currently in England as a commentator for the ongoing Test series between India and England, Gavaskar expressed his concern over the widespread dissemination of these fabricated remarks, although he refrained from singling out specific platforms.
Gavaskar's statement comes in the wake of numerous alleged "quotes" attributed to him during India's first Test loss, particularly following Rishabh Pant’s centuries and Jasprit Bumrah’s performance. According to Gavaskar, his actual commentary was twisted by various platforms, seemingly to generate increased engagement.
