Rohit Sharma, the former India Test captain, was recently photographed enjoying a vacation in Milan with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh. This comes as Team India is currently engaged in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy five-Test series against England.
Sharma, who retired from red-ball cricket at the age of 38, shared glimpses of his Italian holiday on social media. This includes a photo of the famous Duomo di Milano cathedral. He is now focusing on One-Day Internationals. His next assignment is in August, when India tours Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series starting August 17.
Meanwhile, India suffered a setback in the series against England, losing the first Test at Headingley. England successfully chased down a target of 371 runs.
Former England captain Nasser Hussain commented on Shubman Gill's captaincy debut during the match. Speaking on Sky Sports, Hussain observed that Gill seemed to be finding his way and lacked the on-field presence of Sharma and Kohli. He felt Gill was more reactive than proactive, leading to a perceived "captaincy by committee."
England's victory was highlighted by Ben Duckett’s aggressive 149, along with contributions from Joe Root and Jamie Smith. Despite India recording five centuries across both innings, the team couldn’t capitalize on these individual achievements to secure a win.
Hussain pointed out that Gill wasn’t solely responsible for the defeat. He cited dropped catches and batting collapses as significant factors that contributed to India’s loss. India had England in difficult positions but failed to press their advantage. Critical batting collapses saw India lose wickets rapidly in both innings, ultimately allowing England to seize control of the match.
